Die Gefahrstoffverordnung gilt auch für schweißtechnische Arbeiten und hat das Ziel, mit geeigneten Maßnahmen die Beschäftigten vor den gesundheitsschädigenden Wirkungen von Schweißrauchen zu schützen. Für eine Reihe von Inhaltsstoffen wurden in den vergangenen Jahren aufgrund neuer Erkenntnisse neue, beziehungsweise abgesenkte Grenzwerte festgesetzt. Die neugefasste Technische Regel für Gefahrstoffe TRGS 528 konkretisiert die Anforderungen der Gefahrstoffverordnung.
